tui moment

Fighting crime with oestrogen
Our pink fluffy Police Commissioner wants cops to wear anti-violence ribbons for 10 days until the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Gee, it feels safer already. Wearing a ribbon won't stop men hitting women. Excuse my cynicism, but there are already laws against that, yet violence continues. You'd think an experienced cop would know that criminal violence has complicated origins, completely unconnected to fashion accessorising.

The police uniform itself, is a powerful symbol of women's protection against crime & violence. Why should kiwi cop uniforms be 'defaced' and become billboards exhibiting
the empty symbolism of the UN's wacko-wimmin's rights weirdos? Here in NZ, men comprise the majority of the victims of violence. Can the cops wear our ribbons, too? Maoris bash each other up more than anyone else. Can we have our special ribbon campaign, as well?
